Writing at St John's
Our Intent for writing Wonder
At St John’s it is our aim that all pupils enjoy the writing process and produce work that is of a high quality. We support our pupils’ written work by planning sequences of lessons using high quality texts as stimuli. We also work with the principles within The Write Stuff developed by a literacy specialist, Jane Considine. Teachers model and scaffold writing to support all learners.
Children will learn that our writing process has the following elements:
- Planning
- Writing
- Editing
- Redrafting
- Publishing
Through modelling, encountering high quality language and discussion, pupils will have the ability to write coherently, clearly and adapt their language style to a range of contexts, purposes and audiences. Children will be provided with oral and written feedback, enabling them to improve their work.
Each school year, children will redraft a favourite piece of writing to add to their writing portfolio. As they progress through the school, this is something they will keep adding to and, when they leave Year 6, is something they can take away and feel happy and proud to look through and see their progression throughout their time at St John’s.
