HOME LEARNING

Home Learning Tasks

We have been working hard to ensure that home learning is useful, consolidates in school learning and is easy to manage and undertake. We have selected some 'platforms' carefully to support our parents, carers and teachers to monitor progress and check understanding as part of the home learning experience.

Reading - Daily reading at home is expected. Reading is a key focus at school and as much reading as possible outside of school will always be encouraged.  All children should be reading at home at least five times per week with this being noted in their school reading record. Books should be brought into school every day.  Phonics practise for those not quite ready for reading is also very

important, as well as being read to.

Purple Mash - To Do's - these tasks are set weekly in order to consolidate learning

or prepare for an upcoming topic. You are not required to print out work (unless requested - which will be very rare, if ever!) The learning is recorded and the teacher will be able to see an overview of completed tasks and outcomes. There are also games to support with the rehearsal of skills which will not need to be 'handed in' as such.

Spellings - spellings will be set, weekly.  We would always recommend children practise their spellings by writing them. Any issues, please do talk to your class teacher. Children are expected to know how to spell specific words for each group and these lists can be found on our English - Writing & Reading page.

RWI - Phonics videos to view may be sent home.

TT Rockstars / Numbots - these are resources  to support our children

to practise number skills each week and daily if possible.  We compete with

other schools on this one, so it's brilliant if our children have a chance to complete activities at home.  It is important that children develop these number skills so that they begin to become automatic.

Home learning helps the children to consolidate their learning and be prepared for next steps.  If ever you are all 'stuck' on any homework set, please just put it away and have a chat to the class teacher in the morning or send in a message via the school office.

Home learning won't be easy,  but it shouldn't be completely unfamiliar.

In conclusion; Every child is provided with ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ and ‘Purple Mash’ logins for access at home as well as at school - these can be found in their reading records.

There are many more online resources to help children,

but don’t overlook the interactive ways you can enjoy learning as a family!

There are also many homework 'work books' that you can source independently if you wish.  As a school we do not advocate a specific brand, finding that whilst they can have their place, ensuring children are secure in their reading, number facts, spelling and handwriting brings about the best outcomes and this is where our home learning focus lies, as you can see above. We appreciate your support with this.
