COVID 19 Home Learning suggestions during Lockdown May-July 2020

When schools were instructed to close late March 2020, St John's remained open to Keyworker and vulnerable children from across the Trust schools. For those children who could no longer attend school,

the Leaders and teachers  worked hard to create learning opportunities to support families at home. Please find the learning packs, below.

Dear parents and carers,

We hope you have had a good week. It has been lovely to welcome more of our children back onto the school site over the past week. For those of you remaining at home, please find attached the learning at home suggestions for the coming week.

Best wishes and stay safe,

Ms M Parsons  and      Miss P. Cornish

Dear parents and carers,

We hope you are safe and well.

We look forward to welcoming back some more pupils in the next two weeks. Please ensure that if you have not received a text or a phone call to confirm a place at school for your child, you should not attend school, and instead should email or call the school office to discuss this further.  It is crucially important that we reduce the number of people coming to each of the school entrances with the current arrangements in place.  We thank you in advance for your consideration.

Please find attached the Learning at Home sheets for the next week.

With very best wishes,

Ms M. Parsons & Miss P. Cornish

Dear parents and carers,

We hope you have enjoyed something of a half term, and the lovely weather at the moment.

Please find attached the learning at home suggestions for the next week.  As communicated before, we will be in touch with plans about re-opening the school as soon as we feel it is safe to do so.  We very much appreciate all your messages of support in the meantime.

Best wishes and stay safe,

Miss P. Cornish                           Ms. M Parsons

Dear parents and carers,

We hope you are safe and well.

Please find attached the new Leaning at Home sheets which detail activities and learning to undertake in the next week, commencing 18th May.  As before, we would encourage families to enjoy the half term in the following week, and see this as a break from learning.  We know how hard parents are working to help children continue learning at home, and as always, wish to reassure any families who are finding this difficult to maintain.  The most important thing is for your children to be safe and secure at home at this time.

We continue to be available to contact through the school email, and parents are able to discuss any concerns with a school leader by calling 0118 9375540, so please so get in touch if we can help.  Please remember we are closing the school over the half term break, to allow staff, families and children to have a complete break.

Lastly, in order for us to properly plan ahead for the next challenging period of time, please ensure you complete the parent survey request by midday on Monday 18th Monday.

Stay safe,

Miss P. Cornish and Ms Parsons

Supporting reading at home

20th April 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you enjoyed something of an Easter break, and had some family time together.

Please find three attachments of suggested work for your children during this time of school closure.  The suggestions for Foundation Stage, Key Stage One, and Key Stage Two are all attached here so that you can browse resources and suggestions for all year groups if you would like to.

Please, in this difficult time, do not feel pressure to heavily focus on learning, or worried about educating your child from home.  Everyone’s first priority should be to keep safe and well, and reassure children who might be anxious about the crisis, by spending time together as a family.  We also understand that many families may not have a laptop, computer or internet-enabled phone, much less for every sibling, so lots of our timetabled ideas do not need much equipment other than a pen and paper.  If you are lucky enough to have IT resources, then please do make use of the online links for learning provided too, even for a short time each day.  From Monday 20th April, the BBC are also providing a fantastic set of educational lessons for each year group from Year One upwards.  As well as online, these will also be available through the Red Button on your TV.  Please do make use of this amazing resource: a link to find out more is provided in the attached documents.  We will send out new suggested activities for the next fortnight for each phase, every two weeks for the duration of the time we are closed.

Lastly, if you have any concerns or think we can help with anything, please do call or email us at school.   We are missing everyone and very much hope you are safe and well. Stay safe,

Ms M. Parsons
