Religious Education (RE)

At St John’s RE is integral to our learning and Christian values are deeply embedded in our school’s ethos and are lived out daily by all.

We are proud that our RE SIAMs inspections have judged us as Outstanding since September 2005 with the most recent judgement being awarded in February 2014.

Our RE lessons follow the Diocesan and Berkshire Agreed Syllabus where the education is multi-faith with an emphasis on what it means to believe, belong and behave within each faith. Following Diocesan guidelines the majority of RE teaching focuses on Christianity and we are delighted to be able to use our church, which is at the heart of our school, daily. We worship here several times a week and our vicar is a regular presence within our school.

Many faiths are represented at St John’s and we see this as a major strength in the achievements of our pupils. We are one family together and our children work and play well together having great respect for the diversity and difference which is St John’s.

The Christian character of our school contributes significantly to the academic achievement, personal development and well-being of all learners. There is a strong sense of respect existing between staff and pupils who are proud to be a part of this very special school.
